FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
photography: hollow and co:
From intimate Queenstown elopements to beautiful destination weddings and special occasions, my approach is relaxed, considered and completely tailored to you. Here are some of the questions I’m asked most often when it comes to booking hair and makeup.
BOOKING AND AVAILABILITY
-
I open bridal bookings on an 8-month rolling basis. If your wedding date falls within this window, I recommend enquiring as soon as possible, particularly for weekends and peak wedding dates.
-
Simply complete the enquiry form with your wedding details. I’ll then send through my availability, pricing and everything you need to know about the booking process.
Your date is secured once your booking has been confirmed and your deposit has been paid.
-
I don’t hold dates without a confirmed booking. Wedding dates are secured on a first-in, first-served basis once your booking and deposit have been received.
-
For Friday-Sunday weddings, I have a minimum booking of four services.
This allows me to dedicate the time and attention required to each wedding while ensuring your morning runs beautifully and seamlessly.
-
Yes. I’m based in Queenstown and regularly travel for weddings throughout the region and beyond.
If you’re planning a destination wedding or getting married outside Queenstown, I’d love to hear what you have in mind. Any travel requirements or additional costs will be discussed as part of your personalised quote.
-
Travel fees are calculated based on your wedding location and details and will be included in your personalised quote, so everything is clear from the beginning.
-
Very early starts may incur an additional fee. If your wedding requires an especially early start, I’ll let you know when preparing your quote so there are no surprises.
WHAT’S INCLUDED
-
Yes. Lashes can be included as part of your makeup application where appropriate.
I’ll select a style that complements your features and overall makeup rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
-
If you’re wanting additional length or volume, you’ll need to provide your own extensions.
I’m very happy to chat through what would work best for your hair, the style you’re after and the overall finish we’re creating.
-
Yes. I’ll make sure you have what you need for those little touch-ups throughout the day, particularly for your lips.
It’s one less thing for you to think about once you’re on your way to celebrating.
BRIDAL TRIALS
-
While a trial isn’t essential, I highly recommend one. Particularly if you’re unsure about your final look or simply want the reassurance of knowing exactly what we’re creating before your wedding day.
Your trial is a chance for us to experiment, make adjustments and fine-tune every detail, so when your wedding morning arrives, there’s nothing left to wonder about.
-
Ideally, your trial should take place a few months before your wedding. The week of the wedding is also extremely common for brides coming from overseas or out of town.
YOUR WEDDING MORNING
-
I allow approximately one hour per hair or makeup service.
Your final timeline will be created around the number of services, your ceremony time, photographer and getting-ready location, ensuring the morning feels relaxed rather than rushed.
-
I generally recommend having the bride completely finished around 45 minutes to an hour before leaving for the ceremony.
That gives you time to get dressed, take those beautiful getting-ready photos, have something to eat, gather your things and, most importantly, take a moment to breathe.
Your wedding morning should feel like part of the celebration, not a race against the clock.
-
Absolutely.
I’m very happy to work alongside your photographer, planner and other vendors to create a seamless morning.
CHANGES & CANCELLATIONS
-
Small changes can usually be accommodated where possible, depending on availability and how close we are to your wedding date.
If something changes, simply let me know as soon as you can and I’ll always do my best to help.
-
I’ll always do my best to accommodate a change of date, however your new date will need to be available.
Your original booking terms will continue to apply.
-
Your deposit secures your wedding date and cancellation terms apply to all confirmed bookings.
These terms will be clearly outlined in your booking agreement before you confirm, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.
SPECIAL OCCASION FAQS
-
Minimum bookings may apply depending on the day, location and time of your booking.
When you enquire, I’ll let you know what’s available for your particular date.
-
Special occasion bookings can often be made closer to the date than weddings, but I recommend booking as early as possible if you have a particular date or time in mind.
Popular weekends and event dates can fill quickly, especially during Queenstown’s busiest seasons.
-
Definitely.
You don’t need to arrive with a perfectly defined vision. I can guide you based on your personal style, outfit, the occasion and how you want to feel.
-
Absolutely.
Every makeup application is tailored to the individual, taking into consideration your skin, texture, features and personal preferences.
The goal is beautiful, polished makeup that enhances rather than masks, and still feels like you when you look in the mirror.
-
Yes. I’m fully mobile and will come to you, whether you’re getting ready at home, in a hotel or at your accommodation.
Travel requirements and any applicable fees can be discussed when you enquire.

If you’re getting ready with friends, family or a group for an event, simply let me know how many people require services and what you’re looking for.
I’ll work out the best way to schedule everyone so the getting-ready experience feels organised and relaxed.
-
I generally allow approximately one hour per hair or makeup service.
Your exact timing will depend on the services booked and the number of people getting ready. I’ll help you work out the timing you need when you enquire.

I’ll let you know everything you need to know before your appointment, including any hair or skin preparation.
HAIR FAQS
-
Yes. Your hair needs to be clean and 100% dry before your appointment, unless we’ve discussed otherwise beforehand.
-
Yes. Extensions can be a beautiful way to add length, volume and support to certain styles.
If you’re considering extensions, I’m happy to chat through what would work best for your hair and the look you’re wanting to achieve.
MAKEUP FAQS
-
I use professional products and application techniques designed for longevity, while keeping the finish fresh and beautiful.
How makeup wears can also be influenced by your skin type, weather, touching your face and the length of your event. I’ll make sure you know how to look after your makeup throughout the day and have what you need for any small touch-ups.
-
Yes. Lashes are included as part of your makeup application where appropriate, and I’ll select a style that complements your features and overall look.
-
Absolutely.
You don’t need to be someone who wears a full face of makeup to enjoy having your makeup professionally done.
I can create anything from beautifully soft and natural through to more defined and glamorous. The most important thing is that you still feel like yourself.
